Adults Art Webinar: Bold & Expressive Watercolour Painting: Emil Nolde:

Monday: TBC, 19:00 - 21:30

Using the beautiful and magical medium of watercolour boldly, expressively, without holding back, is a liberating form of art making.

Watercolour is a great medium for getting expressive, if you allow yourself to be open to making mistakes and embrace the 'accidental' process.  The medium's ability to produce layers of translucent colour lends itself to the possibility of deep saturation of colours, that lead to incredibly expressive paintings.

In this art webinar we look at the work of German-Danish painter and printmaker,  Emil Nolde and his incredible watercolours and use of explosive colour contrast and compliment in his work. In particular we look at his watercolour landscape paintings.

He was one of the first Expressionists, a member of Die Brücke, and one of the first oil painting and watercolour painters of the early 20th century to explore colour. He is known for his brushwork and expressive choice of colours. Golden yellows and deep reds appear frequently in his work, giving a luminous quality to otherwise somber tones. His watercolors include vivid, brooding storm-scapes and brilliant florals. Nolde's intense preoccupation with the subject of flowers reflected his interest in the art of Vincent van Gogh.

We will open up to the world of playful +  expressive + colour work + guide you through with  demonstrations and discussions. We will experiment with different compositions + look at how Nolde used complimentary colours to create contrast + drama in his artwork.
